INI Instructor Udaka Tatsushige-sensei will give an online lecture/demonstration on noh theatre at the 2021 VIRTUAL HOUSE OF VOICES event organized by the California Institute of the Arts – School of Theatre. I paste the event information below.

Please join us for this CalArts School of Theater initiative, conceived by Rafael Lopez-Barrantes, in which we explore three ancestral voice practices to create a dialogue between practitioners, students, faculty, artists, scholars, researchers, and scientists.The goal is to experience different cultural forms of the voice and to promote further dialogue between those interested in all aspects of human vocal expression. This year, the event will be conducted online via ZOOM meeting, following CalArts’ safety guidance due to the pandemic.

CRT Milan, AsiaTeatro and the International Noh Institute have organised a four-day event series in Milan, Italy from October 14th to October 17. The events include lectures on the origins, history and aesthetics of Noh, a photography exhibition Fabio Massimo Fioravanti‘s (running until November 1st), and afternoon demonstrations (15-16-17) by INI member and Kongo school certified instructor Monique Arnaud.

Udaka Michishige is unique in being both a shite actor of the Kongo School, and a Noh mask carver. This year’s Noh mask exhibition of the Men-no-kai, his group of students from Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto studying Noh mask carving will take place at the Kyoto Prefectural Center for Arts and Culture on Hirokoji-Kawaramachi dori, second floor, November 28th – 30th, from 10:00 to 18:00 (closes at 17:00 on the 30th). On November 29th (Sat.) from 13:30 there will be an explanation and a demonstration of the elaborate costuming of a Noh actor.

Monique Arnaud and Cristina Picelli from the Italian branch of the International Noh Institute will join the Nipponbashi Festival in Treviso, Italy on Saturday 12th July. The event features an open lecture on Noh theatre by Prof. Bonaventura Ruperti (Ca’ Foscari University – Venice) from 18:00 to 20:00, followed by a chant and dance from 21:30 to 22:30. This is a wonderful opportunity for those in the area to attend an introduction to Noh by Monique Arnaud (IUAV University – Venice), the only licensed Noh instructor currently resident in Europe.
On Sunday 13th from 10:00 to 18:00 visitors of the festival will be able to participate to a Noh theatre workshop. If you are interested in the participating contact firstname.lastname@example.org
